Maybe you remember that I said in my last grafity article that my next article would be another serie of Grafity pictures and the influence of music on it. Well I do have the pictures ready, but the music gives some problem. It has to do with time. I suddenly found out that my computer has only 1600 ghz, so some music which I made was making strange Clicking sounds. The processor is not fast enough for my ideas hahaha. So I have to change my music and make it more simple. Thats why I'm now putting this Mouraria pictures on my blog. It has to do with time as well. I became in februari 50 and suddenly everything seemed to be about time. Obsession, obsession, where do though come from.... Does time exhist (My processor said yes, but my body and mind don't want to agree.) Well I was in februari walking throug the Lisbon Area "Mouraria" a timeless area it seems. It was winter, not really my favourite time of the year and than I found this photo project which was made by the Photographer Camilla Watson http://www.camillawatsonphotography.net/.

She made pictures of the people who live in the "Beco das Farinhas" and hanged them on thewall. The pictures are on tiles and in a sort of brownish black and white. It gives a very nice atmosphere the nostalgic Middle aged small street and give a sort of timelessness as well due to the colours. When I made pictures of the pictures and watched them back home I saw another aspect as well. Because of the background of the walls with the same colour as the pictures there was suddenly not only a dancing with time, but also with space. I liked the result and thats why I put them here. I hope you will see and feel what I mean when I say this a sort off space and time which are there and are also not.........

Lisboa Grafity 10 - 2010

Here are some pictures and a video which I ‘shot’ in Lisbon in the year 2010. I published the video as well on my facebook and you Tube (DM55555YO) page. Does time exist and what does this compilation say about this time. I put some nonmusic sounds under it to create a story which brings you to different vibrations and (time) dimensions.

The music has the nice title ‘Les Enfants terrible’ and is created by DJ. TVDW. I got some awefull reactions on this sounds and that is why I call it nonmusic. Some people said that it was hurting their ears and mind, and I think that is good because I put this sounds as a sign of our earth time. In my next blog I will write more about the connections between sound and other expressions of art in time, thinking and feeling!

This post is a continuation of the previous post "A rainy day in Lisbon" and one of the last which is created during this 'awfull' winter. (Awfull for those who like to enjoy the sun!) The inspiration for this post I became from Richard Zimmlers novel "The last Kabbalist of Lisbon".

It is another rainy day in Lisbon when I go to Lisbon to shoot some photo's in the Alfama, one of the most beautiful areas of this city which survived the earthquake of 1755. Here you can find still the feeling of the medieval period when Lisbon got rid of the muslim domination. I walk through the area around the Igreja Sau Miguel. Once this was a Jewish Ghetto, the Juderia Pequena, untill in februari 1506 two Dominican Monks spread from their churchbalcony the luminous message that all Jews where heretics. It was in the time of the catolic inquisition and there was a long time of dryness and the city was attacked by the plague, so this words lead to the slaughter and burning of thousands of the Jewish Population and the end of the Juderia Pequena........

In 1974 they had to run to Brazil!. Now they are back. Rightwing in a democratic style. They have their own party, where they will talk about new roads and shopping centres where the portugese people can work for hunger wages. Maybe it's time for a new revolution, but that is dangerous too, because not everybody is an revolutionary paradise child!

I really don't understand why these beautifull buildings don't get saved. Okay, Economy is God in these times but still. it does not look very smart to me for the future. In Amsterdam we have institutions and rules to keep the old hart of the city as beautifull as it is and there is economy God as well, but they think more about money in the future as well, because without the ancient buildings there will come not as many tourists! And there is a squat law. When buildings are empty longer than a year you can squat them. That means less homeless people. But here they don't seem to care about the buildings and the homeless people. I see both a lot on the streets.

It must be 12 years ago, that I visited Portugal for the first time. I stayed here almost a year and I liked the country, the temperature, the nature, the old architecture, the people, the music etc., etc., very much. I stayed mostly in Lisbon and in the Algarve (Tavira). It was in the time before the Euro, in Portugal they had still the escudo and we in Holland the Gulden, (Florin). It was a good combination those two old currencies, those were the ‘golden’ times.
It took me 5 years before I visited Portugal again and now I stay every year at least half a year. I’m now not an tourist anymore because everything is not new anymore, I talk with my Portuguese friends about a lot off things and see the country more from the inside, although still with Dutch eyes as well.
It is unbelievable how many things changed after my first visit. Not only because that Europe ‘stupidity’, that we have in Holland as well. The Euro is not made for the people who don’t have a lot of money and Portugal is one of the poorest countries of Western Europe. But what the politicians do with there country is for me unbelievable. Okee, to make a long story short, I live like a happy watching walker with a critical eye and mind wherever I am. “I think it could be paradise and should be paradise, but is not pffffh…..”
I got 3 years ago a digital camera and started to take photos from the things I saw. I took many photos and am now going to open up my archives to give you an idea from this country. I will add some comment or whatever to give you even more ideas and feelings in Dutch English so that more people can read it. My Portuguese is not good enough for philosophy or poetry or storytelling and I think Dutch is for a to small group. Oh yeah I got my camera 3 years ago so it has only four mega pixels which was in that time good but technology…… But okay it is about the story behind the photos so I think these photos will do.

My favourite Dutch Poet Slauerhof came al lot of times during the thirty’s of the last century in Lisbon when he was travelling the seven seas as a doctor on a ship. He was charmed by the sadness of Lisbon, the saudade of the Fado and the decay and glory of the past. I wonder what he would think about Lisbon now. Not about the new modern and postmodern building but about the growing decay of buildings and ruins. And these buildings are the attraction for many visitors. Would they come as allmost all of the old Lisbon has become new. Ant that is what going on, because the owners of these buildings don’t care about there past heritage and esthetics. They have rather money and when there buildings fall down they will earn much more money by building new ones than by repairing the old. I think that is an inaccurate and and a rseaon for care because who is not caring about their own past…………..Her a lot of photo’s as a witness for my little story about the Collapsing of a Museum!

I am a laughing loving walker, but this makes me cry!
